En 2001 se publicó el debut discográfico de Black Rebel Motorcycle Club. Primero se hicieron oír con “Spread Your Love”, después llegó “Whatever Happened to my Rock and Roll”. Un segundo single que fue editado en doble 7Â”. Una canción donde presentaron las credenciales de su oscuro y siniestro rock and roll. El tema fue elegido para formar parte de la película ‘Nine Songs’, un film de Michael Winterbottom. Precisamente, la película aborda una relación amorosa que surge cuando chico conoce a chica durante un bolo de Black Rebel Motorcycle Club en el Brixton Academy.
